Israeli authorities arrested some 522 Palestinians in August, Palestinian prisoners’ affairs organisations and rights groups announced today.
A joint report issued today by the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Al-Mezan Centre for Human Rights, the Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association (Addameer) and the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs (CDA), revealed that most of the Israeli arrests took place in the occupied West Bank and the besieged Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian detainees, who were arrested last month, include 130 minors and 16 women, the report added.
On the number of administrative detainees, the report pointed out that Israel has issued about 134 administrative orders, 61 of which were new and 73 were issued against Palestinian prisoners for the second and third times.
The Palestinian organisations reiterated their strong condemnation to the Israeli violations of the international humanitarian law.
The rights group called on the international community to “immediately intervene” to compel Israel to respect the rights of the Palestinian people. They demanded the concerned parties to activate their solidarity with Palestinian detainees’ campaigns.
The joint report was based on statistics on the number of the Israeli arrests in August, the total number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, the number of the detained Palestinian activists, the number of the Israeli extrajudicial killings, the number of Palestinians children arrested.
Israel currently holds detainees some 6300 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, 64 of whom are women, 10 are minors, about 300 are children, 450 are administrative detainees, and 12 members of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC).
