Egyptian army receives offshore patrol vessel from France

Egypt received the second French-made Gowind corvette which can be used by the navy in anti-submarine warfare, local media reported. The navy received the first corvette in 2015, calling it “Tahya Misr” (Long lives Egypt). According to Egypt’s state newspaper, Al-Ahram, Navy Commander General Ahmed Khaled led a military delegation participating in the Egyptian flag-hoisting ceremony aboard the corvette, which has been named “Al-Fateh” (The Conqueror). The delivery of this corvette comes as part of an agreement made between Egypt and France in 2014 which stipulates supplying the Egyptian Navy with four Gowind corvettes. EIA now publishes estimates of monthly rail shipments of petroleum coke and asphalt

To document industry changes and improve data series on petroleum product shipments, EIA’s most recent “Petroleum Supply Monthly” includes new information on petroleum coke and asphalt movements by rail within the United States and to and from Canada. Similar to EIA’s petroleum and biofuel rail movement data, the new monthly data include rail movements dating back to January 2010.

Egypt security forces target Regeni family’s legal team

The legal defence team of the family of Italian researcher, Giulio Regini, who was found dead in Cairo last year with torture wounds covering his body, has accused the Egyptian security forces of raiding its headquarters and trying to shut it down in the latest attempt by the Egyptian state to stifle the case. The Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms (a non-governmental organisation based in Cairo), which is acting as the Regini family’s legal defence team, reported that Egyptian security raided its headquarters, located in the Agouza neighbourhood west of Cairo, yesterday “for unknown reasons”. Algeria moves to remove itself from high-risk list

Algiers is attempting to discard its status as an unsafe country for foreigners to visit in order to develop its tourism industry, according to the Ministry of Tourism. The ministry has approached the French embassy to discuss removing its inclusion from a list that “poses a serious threat to security”. Algeria has been on the French security list annually with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs warning its citizens against visiting the country due to the high security risks and the country being “exposed to terrorist risks”.
